Frequently Asked Questions

Why do you ask for contact information?  We ask for contact information in case we need to contact you. However, in the final group letter delivered to Congress, only your name, affiliation (if you wish to list one), and city and state will be included in the typed signature block. Also, your name and contact information will not be added to any general lists unless you choose to join one.

Why is it important to include an affiliation, if I have one?  We need and welcome your signature even if you do not include an affiliation. However, policymakers are interested if people belong to faith, scientific, or other groups. It helps show diverse interests in caring about species and global warming. Therefore, if you can include an affiliation (e.g., your church, synagogue, or mosque, or your institution, school, or organization), it is helpful. However, there is an asterisk at the end of the signatures that states that affiliations can be “for identification purposes only,” so signing an affiliation does not mean you are representing the entire group.

How will the letter look?  This is a group letter. All signatures will be typed signature blocks, listed alphabetically. Typical signature information includes name and title if appropriate, affiliation or institution, and city and state.
